"A rework of the 6 Chicago Bulls NBA Championship Banners – these pieces took months of planning and labor. The phrases for the banners were sourced through months of digging through vintage Bulls t-shirts from the era. The one exception being 97’s “Too Big, Too Strong, Too Fast, Too Good”. This is a reference to the Derrick Rose era – a time, attitude and a work ethic reflective of the Dynasty 90’s Bulls. Also a particularly important time for the artist – as Derrick Rose and the Bench Mob Bulls served as an introduction to the team and the city for her.
The quilting on the back of all 6 banners (done by Evanston Quilt Company’s Amy Parker) is a call back to a jacket made by the artist in 2020 for Bulls PG Zach Lavine. The Bulls head was quilted in the interior of Zach’s jacket and is an important through line for the artist’s work with the organization. The smoke coming out of the quilted Bulls nose billows onto the front of the pieces and serves as a background to the machine embroidered names that border the banners as well as the hand sewn leather elements.
The banners are meant to invoke nostalgia not just about the 6 time Championship winning Bulls, but about our families, friends and experiences of and in that time."
